Date of News Release: 05/08/2008
(Hickory, KY) - A 2002 Ford Expedition, operated by Ruth Choate, was eastbound on I-24 in Trigg County. Ms. Choate's vehicle began to approach a slower moving semi which was also traveling eastbound. As Ms. Choate's vehicle approached the slower moving semi, Ms. Choate quickly steered to the left to avoid hitting the rear of the semi. Ms. Choate's vehicle missed the semi before losing control of the vehicle. The vehicle then entered the center median of I-24 and overturned, ejecting Ms. Choate. Ms. Choate was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Trigg County Coroner. Two passengers (Juanita R. Hollowell & Sylvia Hopper) in the vehicle were not ejected, but did sustain injuries and were air lifted from the scene to Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, TN. Kentucky State Police was assisted by Trigg Co. EMS and the Trigg Co. Coroner's office. The investigation into the collision is continuing by Trooper Billy Over with the Kentucky State Police.
