Custodial Interference Arrest in McCracken County

(Symsonia, KY) - On Friday, April 04, at 11:48 AM, Kentucky State Police received a 911 call from a staff member at Symsonia Elementary School in Graves County. The caller stated that an 11 year old student had just been taken from the school by her mother who did not have custody of the child. The caller identified the mother as Laurie Hefler, 40, of Paducah. An investigation immediately began into the complaint and troopers began to search for Ms. Hefler at various locations in Graves and McCracken County. At approximately 3:30 PM, troopers and deputies with the McCracken County Sheriff's Office located the vehicle belonging to Ms. Hefler at English's Sew and Vac in McCracken County. A short time later, Ms. Hefler and her daughter were located. The juvenile was unharmed when located. Ms. Hefler was taken into custody by Kentucky State Police and charged with Custodial Interference, a class D felony. Laurie Hefler was lodged in the Graves County Jail. The child was returned to her father. The investigation is continuing by Trooper Eric Fields with Kentucky State Police.
