Scam Alert Concerning Tax Returns

Date of News Release: 03/27/2008

(Murray, KY) - Kentucky State Police wish to warn the public of another scam hitting the area. A Murray resident contacted Kentucky State Police Thursday afternoon to advise them of what he believed to be a telephone scam he had received. The citizen stated that a man contacted him by phone claiming to be with the IRS. The man on the phone asked for bank account information so that a $900.00 tax rebate check could be deposited into his account. The man is reported to have spoken with a foreign accent. Always remember to never give personal account information over the phone or on line. If you receive a phone call similar to the one described, hang up the phone without giving any personal bank account information.
