Injury Collision on US 68 in Trigg County

Date of News Release: 02/19/2008

(Hickory, KY) -An injury collision early this morning on US68 sent one person to Trigg County Hospital and shut down one lane of the highway for approximately 1 hour. Elbert Moore of Cadiz was east bound on US68 approximately 1/2 mile west of KY 139 when he lost control of his vehicle. Moore stated that glare from the sun caused a brief loss of vision and he ran off the right shoulder of the roadway. Moore then over corrected left, crossing into oncoming traffic and into the path of a semi tractor and trailer driven by Byron Reid of Hopkinsville. Reid saw the out-of-control vehicle approaching, and attempted to brake and steer to avoid, but struck Moore. The impact forced Moore's vehicle off the roadway and down an embankment. Moore's 2004 Lincoln was completely destroyed in the crash, but Moore suffered only minor injury. Both operators were wearing seat belts. The Kentucky State Police are investigating the crash, and were assisted by the Trigg County Sheriffs Office, Cadiz Police department, and Trigg County EMS and Rescue Squad.
