Injury Collision on Purchase Parkway in Graves County
Date of News Release: 01/26/08
(Graves County) - Deputy David Warner with the Graves County Sheriff's Office was conducting a single vehicle collision investigation near the north bound 23 mile marker on the Purchase Parkway. Deputy Warner began interviewing Tessa Elder who was still seated in her Pontiac Grand Am. While the deputy was speaking to Ms. Elder, a red Oldsmobile traveling north bound, approached the deputy's location. While attempting to negotiate a curve, the Oldsmobile, driven by Tammy Howard, began to slide due to slippery road conditions. Ms. Howard's vehicle slid onto the emergency lane striking the deputy's parked vehicle in the rear. After striking the patrol vehicle, Ms. Howard's car left the right side of the roadway and struck the red Grand Am which was still occupied by Tessa Elder. Deputy Warner moved out of the path of both vehicles and was able to escape injury. After the multi-vehicle collision, both Ms. Elder and Ms. Howard sustained minor injuries and were taken to Jackson Purchase Medical Center for treatment. The north bound lanes of the Purchase Parkway were closed for approximately 90 minutes while crews cleared the scene. The Mayfield Police Department, Mayfield EMS/Rescue, and Graves County Sheriff's Office assisted KSP at the scene. The collision is being investigated by Trooper Joe Gregory of the Kentucky State Police.
