Shooting Investigation in Taylor County

Date of News Release: 03/29/08

(Columbia, KY) - On March 29, 2008, at approximately 2332 hours EST, the Campbellsville Police Department received a 911 call in reference to a domestic altercation involving weapons at 506 Woodlawn Avenue in the limits of Campbellsville.

Upon arrival at the scene, Campbellsville Police Department Officers encountered Adam Powell, age 22, of Campbellsville, who was armed with a hand gun. Adam Powell confronted officers with the gun and officers ordered Powell to drop the weapon. Mr. Powell then pointed and fired his weapon at the officers. A Campbellsville Police Officer returned fire, striking Mr. Powell two times.

Adam Powell was taken by ambulance to Taylor Regional Hospital where he underwent surgery for his wounds. Mr. Powell was later transferred to the University of Louisville Hospital where he is listed in serious but stable condition.

The shooting is being investigated by Detective B. J. Burton and Detective Kevin Hunt of the Kentucky State Police.
