Update to the Murder Investigation in Metcalfe County

(Columbia, KY) - In reference to the Murder of John Auburn Smith that occurred in Metcalfe County on January 29, 2008, a suspect has been arrested and charged with Murder.

David L. Endicott, W/M, age 32, of Edmonton, Kentucky, was arrested on February 1, 2008. Mr. Endicott was arrested based upon eye witness information obtained during this investigation. Endicott is lodged in the Barren County Jail. The investigation is continuing while State Police await results from laboratory testing. Additional arrest may be forthcoming pending further investigation.

Date of News Release: 01/30/08

(Columbia, KY) - On January 29, 2008, around 7:17 p.m., the Kentucky State Police in Columbia was notified about a shooting at 33 Pleasant Ridge Cemetery Road, Edmonton, Kentucky. EMS units responded to the scene and transported the victim to Westlake Regional Hospital in Columbia, where he was pronounced dead by the Adair County Coroner Rick Wilson.

The deceased has been identified as John Auburn Smith, W/M, age 46, of Mefcalfe County. Another individual at the scene was transported to Jane Todd Crawford Hospital in Greensburg for treatment.

This case is being investigated by Detective B.J. Burton, Detective Kevin Hunt and Sergeant Bobby Sullivan.

(Columbia, KY) - The Kentucky State Police in Columbia is currently investigating a homicide that occurred Tuesday night in Metcalfe County.

The victim was transported by EMS to Westlake Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced dead by the Adair County Coroner.

An autopsy will be conducted Wednesday morning (1/30/08).

The case is being investigated by Det. BJ Burton, Det. Kevin Hunt, Sgt. Rob Winsett, and Sgt. Bobby Sullivan.
