Fatal Traffic Crash in Rockcastle County

(London, KY) - On Saturday September 06, 2008 at 2:24 PM the Kentucky State Police Post 11, London, received a report of a two vehicle traffic crash, with fatally, on I-75 in Rockcastle County.

Upon arrival KSP Traffic Crash Reconstructionist Trooper Craig Reed determined that a 2001, Orange, Pontiac, Trans Am, operated by Sherry L. Marketti, 57, of Columbiaville, MI was southbound on I-75 attempting to pass a 2005, Blue, Volvo, tractor-trailer, operated by Joseph K. Osborne, 46, of Marion, VA.

The Pontiac entered the median, in an area where the travel lanes narrow from three lanes to two, lost control striking unit two and a guardrail before coming to rest.

The passenger of the Pontiac, Theresa M. Dewey, 76, of Orion, MI, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected during the crash and fatally injured. Ms. Dewey was pronounced dead at the scene by the Rockcastle County Coroner.

Ms. Marketti was transported to the Rockcastle County Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Mr. Osborne was not injured in the crash.

Trooper Reed is continuing the investigation and was assisted at the scene by officers of the Kentucky State Police, the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and the Rockcastle County Sheriff's Office. Also assisting at the scene was the Rockcastle County Coroner and the Rockcastle County EMS.
