Former Harlan County Deputy Arrested & Charged with Murder

(Harlan, KY) - On 12/08/2008 at 12:00 p.m., Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan executed an indictment warrant in Harlan, KY. Detective Michael H. Cornett arrested former Harlan County Deputy Roger Hall, age 41 of Benham, KY for his alleged role in the death of Paul L. Browning Jr. Roger Hall has been charged with Complicity to Murder and Complicity to Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st degree. The indictment reads that on or about February 25, 2002 until March 22, 2002 in Harlan County that Roger Hall, with the intent to promote or facilitate the commission of a crime, agreeing with one or more persons, that one of them will engage in conduct constituting such crime. Roger Hall paid Raymond Harris to kill Paul L. Browning Jr. The second charge says that on or about January 01, 2001 until on or about January 01, 2004 that Roger Hall committed the offense of Conspiracy to Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st degree, a class C felony to wit: Roger Hall with the intent to promote or facilitate the commission of a crime, agreeing with one or more persons that at least one of them will engage in conduct constituting such crime, by taking payoffs in return for providing assistance to Dewayne Harris in the trafficking in a controlled substance in the first degree. This is the fourth arrest in the March 22, 2002 murder of former Harlan County Sheriff and sheriff candidate Paul L. Browning Jr. Assisting with the arrest were Trooper Walt Szczepan, Trooper Bryan Johnson and Trooper James E. Hensley. This case is still under investigation by Detective Michael H. Cornett, Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan.
