Fatal Crash on US 23 in Johnson County

(Pikeville, KY) - Gary Cantrell was operating a 1990 Cadillac in the south bound turn lane attempting to cross the north bound lane of US 23 to KY RT 1428. Mr. Cantrell pulled his vehicle into the path of a Semi. Mr. Cantrell was pronounced dead at scene by Johnson County Coroner Junior Frisby. Johnny D. Sloe the operator of the semi was transported to St. Mary Hospital in Huntington West Virginia by Life Net Helicopter was he was treated and released.

The semi was inspected at the scene by Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement Officer Mark Wallace and Sgt. Jamie Collins. Crash is under investigation by Trooper Jason Dials. Trooper Dials was assisted at the scene by KVE, Paintsville Police Department, and Paintsville Fire Department.
