Fatal Collision on KY 850 in Floyd County

Date of News Release: 09/23/2007

(Pikeville, KY)- At 0403 hours Ivan Gunnels Jr. (27yo) and Tina Emmons were traveling on KY 850 toward David at a high rate of speed when gunnels' truck left the roadway in a curve. The vehicle overturned and Ms. Emmons was ejected through the windshield. After fire and EMS crews responded, Medflight helicopters were summoned to transport both victims. Upon arrival of the first helicopter, it was learned Ms. Emmons had passed away from her injuries and the second helicopter was cancelled.

Detective and Accident Reconstructionist Eddie Crum U/309 is investigating. He was assisted on scene by Sgt. Steve Spurlock U/188, Tpr David Watkins U/671, Det Mike Goble U/762 and the David Fire Department.

Ms. Emmons was transported to Highlands Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at 0613 hours by Floyd County Deputy Coroner Roger Rowe. An autopsy is scheduled for next date (09/24/07) in Frankfort. Gunnels is listed in stable condition at St. Marys Hospital in Huntington, WV. Accident is still under investigation.
