Assault and Death Investigation in Pike County

(Pikeville, Ky.) - On August 18, 2007 the Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post 9 responded to a call from a resident in the Mouthcard Community of Pike County. The caller advised that a female victim was on her porch advising that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend.

The victim, Bobbie Jo Shephard had been kidnapped by her estranged boyfriend, Larry Davy Boyd in Buchanan County, Va and then taken to Buckeye Branch at Mouthcard, KY. Boyd, 28 years of age, then shot Shephard, 29 years of age and left her in a remote wooded area. Shephard was able to find help and call for assistance at a residence on Buckeye Branch.

Shephard was taken to the Buchanan General Hospital for treatment.

Kentucky State Police, Buchanan County Sheriff Department, Dickenson County Sheriff's Department and the FBI have been following leads and attempting to locate the suspect since the incident. The suspects vehicle was discovered in the area of the assault.

On August 20, 2007 Kentucky State Police Detectives returned and searched the surrounding area. At approximately 11:30 AM Kentucky State Police Detectives located Larry Davy Boyd deceased due to apparent self inflicted injuries and appears to have been there since the incident. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Pike County Deputy Coroner Denver Bailey.
