Explosive Device on Vehicle In Magoffin County

(Salyersville, Ky.) - On March 26, 2007 at approximately 4:19 pm Kentucky State Police Post 9 Pikeville received a call from the Magoffin 911 Center advising that Magoffin County Deputies had located an explosive device on a vehicle parked at the Magoffin County Courthouse. Troopers responded and evacuated the area creating a safe perimeter around the vehicle. Kentucky State Police Hazardous Devices Unit responded to the scene and determined the device could be removed from the vehicle without incident. The vehicle was a 1986 Ford Bronco owned by Randy Back, 33 years of age from Wolfe County. Back worked at the building adjacent to the Courthouse and parked his vehicle in that parking lot. The incident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Detectives Kevin Newsome and Donnie Shearer.
