Indictments Returned in Criminal Case Involving Bourbon Circuit Clerk

(Paris, KY) - A Bourbon County Special Grand Jury has returned six indictments in regard to a Kentucky State Police investigation into allegations of Official Misconduct within the Bourbon County Circuit Clerk's Office.
Bourbon Circuit Clerk Sherry Rankin, 42, of 1121 Karla Drive, Paris, KY was indicted on four counts of Official Misconduct 1st Degree.
Deputy Clerk Whitney Jones, 38, of 1205 Arlington Drive, Paris, KY was also indicted on one count of Official Misconduct 1st degree.
The investigation was initiated by Post 6 Detective Kevin Flick in April of 2006 after receiving allegations of record tampering regarding documents related to pending Bourbon County Court cases. Search warrants were served on the clerk's office on September 14, 2006 by Detective Flick. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Kentucky issued a temporary order of suspension on Rankin and Jones on September 14th as well.
The prosecutorial function of the case was assigned to the Fayette County Commonwealth's Attorney Ray Larson's office. The Grand Jury convened on Tuesday, January 30 and returned the indictments after presentation of the investigation by Post 6 Detectives Flick and Jeremy Murrell.
Official Misconduct 1st Degree is a Class A Misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of 12 months in jail and a maximum fine of $500.
