(Campbellsburg, KY)- On June 6th, 2007, at approx. 9:58 am, Kentucky State Police Post-5, Campbellsburg, received a report from the Carroll County Dispatch Center, of a bank robbery that had just occurred. We were advised by Carroll County Sheriff Ben Smith, that the "Carrollton Federal Bank", located at 2539 Highway 227, in Carrollton, Ky, was robbed by a black male who was driving a white compact car with a temporary tag. Sheriff Smith also advised that the car was last seen going towards I-71. KSP and the Carroll County Sheriffs Dept responded towards the bank and the immediate area.
At approx. 10:07 am, June 6th, 2007, KSP Lt. Chad White, while going northbound on I-71, observed a vehicle, headed south on I-71, that matched the description, given out in the earlier broadcast. He relayed this information to Tpr. Mickey Gonterman who located the car near the 34 milemarker, still headed southbound. Tpr. Gonterman initiated the traffic stop on a 1999 Nissan Sentra, with a temporary tag, and Tpr. David Trimble and Tpr. Chip Perry assisted him. The lone occupant of the vehicle, was identified as Bernard Elliott Woodson, black male, age 35, from Louisville, Ky, and was taken into custody on suspicion of bank robbery, as well as an outstanding warrant for failure to pay child support, from Jefferson County, Ky. An undisclosed sum of cash was located on Woodsons person. His vehicle was seized, along with the cash. No one was hurt in the robbery or the subsequent arrest. A weapon was not displayed and none was recovered. The FBI has been notified. The investigation is ongoing, headed by KSP Det. Kevin Johnson. Woodson is being held at the Carroll County Regional Detention Center and bond has not been set.
