Attempted Assault in Barren County

(Bowling Green) - Jessie Winchester was in violation of a burn ban by burning garbage outside of his residence. As a result, some nearby rolled hay caught fire. Hiseville Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to extinguish the fire. Upon arrival of the fire department, Winchester & his sons prevented fire department personnel from putting out the fire. K.S.P. assistance was requested. Upon K.S.P. arrival Mr. Winchester brandished an axe handle. Trooper Hodges ordered him to drop the axe handle. Mr. Winchester complied, then ran into the house. At this point other arrested persons attempted to intervene & prevent the arrest of Mr. Winchester. All parties were subsequently arrested without further incident.
Jessie B. Winchester & Brandon W. Bennett were lodged in the Barren County Jail. Jessie B. Winchester was charged with Wanton Endangerment 1st degree, Fleeing or Evading 1st degree - on foot, Attempted Assault 3rd Degree, Obstruction of a Government Operation, Resisting Arrest, & Menacing. Brandon W. Bennett was charged with Obstruction of a Government Operation & Resisting Arrest. The juvenile was cited to court & released into the custody of his parent per order of the Barren County court designated worker. Investigation continues.
