Date of News Release: 03/23/2007
(Bowling Green) - On 03-23-2007 at approximately 06:30 hours a subject armed with a handgun entered the Burger King located at the intersection of Russellville Road and Morgantown Road. The assailant accosted 4 employees who were present and as he was forcing them to the rear of the restaurant they managed to run out a back door. The subject then fled the restaurant. The employees ran out and flagged down Bowling Green Police Officer Matt Davis, who was passing by on Russellville Road, and told him what had just occurred. Officer Davis responded immediately and saw the suspect go around a corner of the Western Hills Motel next door to the Burger King. As the subject was climbing over a chain link fence Officer Davis confronted him and ordered him to stop. The subject was armed with a handgun and threatened to kill Officer Davis. Officer Davis, fearing for his life, fired 2 shots at the assailant. The assailant went over the fence and ran off into a wooded ravine. Assistance arrived quickly and a search for the suspect began. He was found a few minutes later, injured from two gunshot wounds. He was transported out of the ravine for immediate medical attention. The suspect, identified as 36 year old Roger Reese of Bowling Green, succumbed to his injuries at approximately 07:55 hours.
The Bowling Green Police Department, in accordance with their policy, requested that the Kentucky State Police conduct the investigation into this incident. An autopsy is scheduled at the Medical Examiner's Office in Louisville tomorrow morning.
