DUI Injury Collision on Government Road in Hopkins County

Madisonville, KY - Johnny Orton was traveling eastbound on Government Road. Occupants stated that they struck a deer and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle then exited the right shoulder of the roadway, slid down an embankment, and struck a tree with the drivers side. Mr. Orton stated that he was a passenger in the vehicle and Ms. Stephanie Barnett was driving. However, Mr. Orton's injury patterns were consistent with a person seated in the driver's position of the vehicle. Ms. Barnett was transported to Regional Medical Center by ambulance. During an interview at the hospital Ms. Barnett advised that she was driving the vehicle. Both Mr. Orton and Ms. Barnett were intoxicated and cited to court for DUI and other traffic charges. The three juveniles were wearing seatbelts in the rear seat of the vehicle but were not in child seats. The juveniles were transported to the hospital by a personal vehicle and were treated and released.
