Drug Arrest in Dawson Springs, KY

Dawson Springs, KY (Hopkins County) - On Monday, September 17, 2007 at approximately 10:30 a.m., officers from KSP Post 2 and KSP DESI West were conducting surveillance on a methamphetamine dump site located off of Niles Road as part of an ongoing investigation. While officers were conducting surveillance, they discovered Jimmy R. Kelley preparing to manufacture methamphetamine. As officers approached Mr. Kelley, he attempted to flee on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, Jimmy Kelley was apprehended. As the officers were in the process of obtaining a search warrant for the property, Danny Kelley arrived at the scene. Upon noticing the officers, he fled the scene in a vehicle. Two troopers stopped him just up the road. Danny Kelley was arrested and served with outstanding warrants. A search of his person and the immediate area revealed methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. A search warrant was secured and executed at the property. Officers located an active methamphetamine lab, anhydrous ammonia, meth precursors and finished product (meth) at the residence of Danny Kelley. During the course of the investigation, Sheila D. Morris provided misleading information to the investigating officers. All three subjects were charged with the offenses listed below and lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center.

   Possession of Anhydrous Ammonia with intent to Manufacture Meth
   Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree
   Possession of Drug Paraphernalia 1st Offense (2 counts)
   Execution of Warrant for Violation of KY DVO/EPO (2 counts)
   Execution of Warrant for Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree
   Trafficking Controlled Substance 1st Degree
   Tampering with Physical Evidence
