Stats From Post 2 For August 2007

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of August 2007, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 36 Drunken Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 1,262 Citations
  • Issued 401 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 204 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 6 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 683 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 126 Crashes
  • Inspected 2,120 Vehicles
  • Assisted 236 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 1,187 Criminal Complaints
  • Opened 70 Criminal Cases
  • Made 142 Criminal Arrests

**There were three (3) fatal crashes reported in the Post 2 District in August 2007. Three (3) people were killed as a result of the crashes. Two single fatality crashes occurred in Todd County and one single fatality crash occurred in Muhlenberg County. Two (2) victims were not wearing a seatbelt and one (1) victim was wearing a helmet.

Through August 31, 2007 thirty-three (33) people have been killed in thirty-two (32) crashes in the Post 2 District. Seventeen (17) victims were not wearing seatbelts, ten (10) victims were wearing seatbelts, five (5) victims were wearing a helmet and one (1) victim was a pedestrian.

Through August 31, 2006, twenty-eight (28) people had been killed in twenty-four (24) crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
