Fatal Crash on KY 107 in Kirkmansville, KY

Kirkmansville, KY (Todd County) - Joseph E. Mitchell age 28 of Elkton, KY was operating a 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck westbound on KY 107 approximately one mile west of Kirkmansville, when for an unknown reason his vehicle began to drift over into the eastbound lane. The vehicle dropped off the left shoulder of the roadway. Mr. Mitchell overcorrected and brought the vehicle back onto the roadway. The vehicle then exited off the right shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle overturned several times and struck a tree. Joseph Mitchell who was not wearing a seatbelt was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Todd County Deputy Coroner Garland Lester II. The two passengers, Samuel D. Mitchell age 21 of Lewisburg, KY and Jimmy E. Whitman age 34 of Lewisburg, KY, were wearing seatbelts and were not injured. Trooper Brandon McPherson is continuing the investigation of the crash that occurred on August 30, 2007 at 11:20 p.m. Sgt. Duane Snyder, Tpr. Lloyd Ray, the Todd County Sheriff's Department, the Clifty Fire Department, Todd County EMS and the Todd County Coroner's Office assisted at the scene.
