Death Investigation in Manitou, KY

Manitou, KY (Hopkins County) - Mitchell Sanders age 43 of Nortonville, KY had parked a 1999 Ford F-350 truck facing north in a yard on Beeny Lane. He was working for Crick Paving Company that was in the process of paving a driveway on Beeny Lane. Attached to the truck was a trailer with a John Deere tractor on it. Mr. Sanders was attempting to off-load the tractor from the trailer. As Mr. Sanders began to back the tractor off the trailer, the truck began to roll forward. The truck with the trailer still attached and the tractor still on it began to roll. It crossed Beeny Lane and traveled through the front yard located at 510 Beeny Lane. The truck then struck a mother and her two children that were in the yard. The mother, Christy Caraway age 25, and her son, Landon Caraway age 10 months, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Hopkins County Coroner, Dennis Mayfield. Her daughter, Alexis Caraway age 4, was transported by ambulance to the Regional Medical Center where she was treated and released. Mr. Sanders was not injured. The investigation is continuing by the Kentucky State Police. Tpr. Nick Rice is investigating the incident that occurred on August 6, 2007 at 12:00 p.m. Sgt. Bobby Murray, Tpr. Michael Dennis, Manitou Fire & Rescue, Nebo Fire & Rescue, Medical Center Ambualcne Service, Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement and the Hopkins County Coroner's Office assisted at the scene.
