Injury Crash on US 62 in Hopkins County

Date of News Release: 07/13/2007

(Hopkins County) - Mr. Sammy Oliver was traveling westbound on US 62. Mr. Dewey W. Overton was stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of Lake Grove Loop and US 62, attempting to enter the roadway at KY 454. For an unknown reason, Mr. Overton pulled out onto the roadway in front of Mr. Oliver's tractor and trailer. The tractor and trailer was unable to get stopped, causing his tractor to make contact with the right side of Mr. Overton's van. Mr. Overton's van then slid across the roadway before exiting the right shoulder of the roadway, entering the St. Cheezy's parking lot, causing the front left portion of the van to strike the side of the building. After making contact with Mr. Overton's van, the tractor and trailer continued westbound before exiting the right shoulder of US 62, striking a ditch. As a result, the trailer containing logs lost its load, scattering logs across the front yard of the residence located at 6210 Nortonville Road, and causing moderate damage to the driverless parked Toyota Camry.

Mr. Oliver was transported to Regional Medical Center in Madisonville, and Mr. Overton was transported by AirEvac to Deaconess Medical Center in Evansville, Indiana.
