Injury Crash on KY 106 in Elkton, KY

Date of News Release: 06/26/2007

Elkton, KY (Todd County) - Joshua Mayes age 23 of Olbstead, KY was operating a 1988 Dodge Dakota pickup truck westbound on KY 106. Steven Higgins age 30 of Elkton, KY was operating a 1991 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck eastbound on KY 106. Mr. Mayes lost control of his vehicle in a curve and crossed into the eastbound lane. Mr. Higgins attempted to avoid the collision by pulling slightly off the shoulder of the eastbound lane, but was not successful. Mr. Mayes' vehicle struck Mr. Higgins' vehicle in a head-on manner causing substantial damage to both vehicles. Mr. Mayes and his passenger, Charles Mayes age 25 of Olbstead, KY, were transported by ambulance to the Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment. Mr. Higgins and his passenger, James Boley age 14 of Elkton, KY, were transported by ambulance to the Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment. None of the individuals were wearing seatbelts. Tpr. Ben Sawyer investigated the crash that occurred on June 25, 2007 at 2:01 p.m. Todd County Rescue and EMS assisted at the scene.
