Pursuit & Arrest in Earlington, KY

Earlington, KY (Hopkins County) - On Friday, June 22, 2007 at approximately 12:14 a.m., Tpr. Dan Morck was traveling on the Edward T. Breathitt Parkway (Pennyrile Parkway) when he observed a vehicle speeding. Tpr. Morck activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The driver of the suspect vehicle failed to comply and attempted to flee. Both vehicles exited the parkway. The pursuit continued to the three-way intersection of KY 481, KY 336 and KY 2171. As Tpr. Morck attempted to negotiate the intersection, his cruiser exited the roadway and sustained damage, which made him unable to continue the pursuit. Tpr. Brian Gann and Tpr. Brandon McPherson were enroute to assist and had been notified of the last direction of travel of the suspect's vehicle. Tpr. McPherson located the suspect's vehicle crashed and abandoned approximately one mile south of Tpr. Morck's location. Tpr. Gann located the suspect, Ty N. Heltsley age 19 of White Plains, KY, walking in the city limits of Earlington. Mr. Heltsley was taken into custody without further incident and lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center. Mr. Heltsley was charged with the following offenses:

  1. Speeding
  2. Fleeing/Evading Police 1st Degree
  3. Disregarding A Stop Sign
  4. Reckless Driving
  5. Failure To Use Turn Signal
  6. No Insurance
  7. Leaving The Scene of An Accident

Neither Tpr. Morck nor Mr. Heltsley sustained any injuries as a result of either crash.
