Injury Crash Involving DUI in Hopkins County

Date of News Release: 06/11/2007

Madisonville, KY (Hopkins County) - Dionna Griner age 38 of Powderly, KY was operating a 1989 Chevrolet Silverado C1500 pickup truck northbound on the Pennyrile Parkway at the 41 mile-marker. She was traveling in the left lane (passing lane) and advised a tire tread was in the roadway. She attempted to avoid the tire tread by applying her brakes and steering to the left. She struck the tire tread and steered to the right. As a result of overcorrecting, the vehicle began a clockwise rotation and traveled across both northbound lanes. The vehicle exited the roadway and struck a tree. Ms. Griner was transported by ambulance to the Regional Medical Center where she was treated and released. She was wearing a seatbelt. Ms. Griner was arrested and charged with the following offenses:

  1. DUI 3rd Offense
  2. Operating on DUI Suspended License 2nd Offense
  3. Failure of Non-Owner to Maintain Insurance 1st Offense

She was lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center. Tpr. Derek Smith investigated the crash that occurred on June 9, 2007 at 6:19 p.m. The Medical Center Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
