Stats From Post 2 For May 2007

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of May 2007, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 52 Drunken Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 2,147 Citations
  • Issued 557 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 701 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 17 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 1,147 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 95 Crashes
  • Inspected 3,972 Vehicles
  • Assisted 226 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 1,220 Criminal Complaints
  • Opened 91 Criminal Cases
  • Made 191 Criminal Arrests

**There were four (4) fatal crashes reported in the Post 2 District in May 2007. Four (4) people were killed as a result of the crashes. Two single fatality crashes occurred in Todd County. One single fatality crash occurred in Hopkins and Webster Counties. One (1) victim was not wearing a seatbelt and three (3) victims were wearing seatbelts.

Through May 31, 2007 twenty-one (21) people have been killed in twenty-one (21) crashes in the Post 2 District. Eleven (11) victims were not wearing seatbelts, eight (8) victims were wearing seatbelts, one (1) victim was wearing a helmet and one (1) victim was a pedestrian.

Through May 31, 2006, seventeen (17) people had been killed in sixteen (16) crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
