Buckle Up Kentucky: It's The Law & It's Enforced!
Memorial Day Holiday
Date of News Release: 05/21/2007
Madisonville, KY (Hopkins County) - As motorists travel along Kentucky's roads this Memorial Day weekend, the Kentucky State Police want to remind everyone to buckle up. Beginning May 21, 2007 and continuing through June 3, the Kentucky State Police will be participating in the BUCKLE UP KENTUCKY: IT'S THE LAW & IT'S ENFORCED! campaign. If you choose not to buckle up, then be prepared to get a ticket.
The Memorial Day weekend, which begins at 6 p.m. Friday, May 25 and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, May 28, traditionally marks the beginning of the summer driving season and the Kentucky State Police expect a significant increase in traffic on the state's roadways. In 2006, there were no fatalities reported in the Post 2 District during the Memorial Day weekend.
During this campaign, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will be partnering with local law enforcement agencies to conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, officers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. For traffic safety checkpoint locations in your area, you may refer to the web site: www.kentuckystatepolice.org/posts/press/post2_checkpoints.htm. Patrols will be increased in high volume traffic areas and high crash locations. Troopers will also be targeting reckless drivers and speeders.
Citizens can assist by calling toll free 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state) to report any type of driving infractions. Just provide the direction of travel, a description of the vehicle, and the license plate number if possible.
The Kentucky State Police want to remind everyone to buckle up because: IT'S THE LAW & IT'S ENFORCED!
Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.
