Pursuit & Arrest in Pembroke, KY

Pembroke, KY (Christian County) - On Thursday, May 10, 2007 at approximately 9:30 p.m., Tpr. Ben Sawyer responded to a complaint of a reckless driver. Tpr. Sawyer located the suspect vehicle on US 41 just north of Pembroke and observed it traveling south in the northbound lane. The suspect vehicle nearly struck an oncoming vehicle head-on. Tpr. Sawyer activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle. However, the suspect vehicle failed to comply.

The pursuit traveled through Pembroke and continued towards Todd County. The fleeing vehicle varied at speeds between 20 and 50 miles per hour. A few miles north of the Todd County line, Christian County Deputy Sheriff Lynn Moe joined the pursuit. Deputy Moe was able to pass Tpr. Sawyer and the suspect vehicle to establish a moving roadblock. Deputy Moe slowed to a stop and the suspect vehicle slowed to a stop behind him.

Tpr. Sawyer took the driver, Gregory A. Zaske Jr. age 37 of Clarksville, TN, into custody without further incident. Mr. Zaske was charged with the following offenses:

  1. Fleeing/Evading Police 1st Degree-Motor Vehicle (D Felony)
  2. Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree (D Felony)
  3. DUI 1st Offense (B Misdemeanor)
  4. Reckless Driving (Violation)
  5. Failure to Wear Seatbelt (Violation)

He was lodged in the Christian County Detention Center. There were no injuries reported and no property was damaged. The pursuit lasted approximately seven minutes and covered approximately 5 miles.
