Injury Crash on Pennyrile Parkway in Hopkins County

Date of News Release: 03/23/2007

Mortons Gap, KY (Hopkins County) - Richard T. Utley age 24 of Hopkinsville, KY was operating a 2003 GMC Sierra 2500 truck northbound on the Pennyrile Parkway at approximately the 36 mile-marker when for an unknown reason the vehicle exited off the left side of the roadway and traveled into the median. The vehicle became airborne and struck a road sign. The vehicle continued to travel through the median and overturned several times. Mr. Utley was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. The vehicle came to rest upright facing northbound in the middle of the median. Mr. Utley was pinned underneath the vehicle. After rescue workers freed him, he was flown to Deaconess Hospital for treatment of multiple injuries. Tpr. Michael Dennis is investigating the crash that occurred on March 23, 2007 at 8:30 a.m. The South Hopkins Fire Department, Nortonville Fire & Rescue, Medical Center Ambulance Service, Air Evac, Hopkins County Emergency Management and the State Highway Department assisted at the scene.
