Criminal Drug Arrest in Ballard County
Date of News Release: 09/30/2007
(Mayfield, KY) - On September 29, 2007, at approximately 2130 HRS, Kentucky State Police and the Ballard County Sheriffs Office were conducting a traffic safety checkpoint in the Lovelaceville community in Ballard County.
A vehicle came through the checkpoint that had an odor resembling burnt marijuana in or about it. As a result, Tpr. Nall asked the operator/owner of the vehicle for consent to search the vehicle, and was granted that consent. Prior to searching the vehicle, Tpr. Nall asked the operator, an unnamed male, and passenger of the vehicle, April R. Williamson, to exit the vehicle. At this time, Tpr. Nall requested permission to search her person and her purse. She granted him permission to do so. A search of Ms. Williamson's purse revealed an unmarked pill bottle containing pills, identified as Alprazolam (Xanax, a Schedule IV controlled substance), packaged in small plastic baggies. The search also revealed a substantial amount of marijuana, a pipe made for smoking marijuana, rolling papers, and several partially smoked marijuana cigarettes.
After placing Ms. Williamson under arrest, Tpr. Nall searched the remainder of the vehicle. The search revealed no illegal items, so the owner/operator was released.
Ms. Williamson was charged with Trafficking Controlled Substance 3rd Degree 1st Offense, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia 2nd Offense, and Prescription Controlled Substance not in Original Container 1st Offense. Ms. Williamson was lodged in the Ballard County Detention Center.
Tpr. Nall was assisted by the Ballard County Sheriffs Office.
