Suspicious Package at the Graves County Courthouse

(Mayfield, KY) - At approximately 0800 hours this morning a suspicious package was discovered at the south entrance to the Graves County Courthouse. Kentucky State Police responded to the scene along with the Graves County Sheriffs Department, Mayfield Police Department, the Mayfield Fire Department and Kentucky Emergency Management. It was determined that the package was a credible threat to public safety and the courthouse and surrounding area was evacuated. The Paducah Police Department Bomb Squad was requested by Kentucky State Police to assist at the scene. At approximately 1300 hours this afternoon the package was rendered safe by the Paducah Police Department Bomb Squad and was discovered that the package did not contain explosives. After determining that the area was safe, it was opened back up for the public. The Kentucky State Police are continuing to investigate the incident and anyone with information needs to call the Kentucky State Police at 270-856-3721 or 270-575-7228.
