Burglary 1st Degree Investigation in Graves County

(Mayfield, KY) - On 6-25-07 at 11:50PM, Kentucky State Police Dispatch received a 911 call from a residence on KY. 121 North of Mayfield reporting someone breaking into their home. During the 911 call, the homeowner reported a male suspect forced the door open and started ransacking the home. The female caller fled the home and once officers arrived, her husband followed. Trooper Kyle Nall, Graves County Sgt. Davant Ramage and Deputy Mike Riley arrived and began searching the home. The suspect, Gary Cope 36 of Mayfield, was found hiding in a living room closet. While attempting to take Cope into custody, he resisted and attempted to disarm Deputy Riley. Officers used force necessary to regain control of the weapon and affect the arrest. Cope was arrested and taken to Jackson Purchase Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries and released to Officers. He was charged with Burglary 1st, Resisting Arrest and Criminal Mischief by Graves County Deputies and Attempting to Disarm a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest and Assault 3rd-Police Officer by Trooper Nall. Cope was lodged in the Graves County Detention Center. The investigation is continuing by both agencies.
