Two Western Kentucky Men Charged With Murder

(BENTON, KY.) On February 20, 2007 Investigator´s with the Kentucky State Police charged two Western Kentucky men with murder and other offenses relating to the May 27, 2006 death of Ashley Wilson (20) of Gilbertsville, KY.
On May 28, 2006 Kentucky State Police initiated a death investigation after Wilson was found deceased in a motel room at the Ken-Bar Lodge in Gilbertsville. Wilson, an employee of the business, was pronounced dead on that date by Marshall County Coroner Mitchell Lee. The circumstances surrounding the death of Ms. Wilson appeared suspicious at the time of her discovery.
The results of a nine-month investigation by Kentucky State Police were presented to a grand jury in Marshall County on February 15, 2007. The grand jury returned indictments charging Mark S. Christy, 48 of Paducah and Steven L. Howell, 28 of Bardwell with the following offenses: (1) Murder; (2) Rape in the 1st Degree; and (3) Tampering with Physical Evidence. At the time of the offenses alleged in the indictments, Christy was on parole for an Assault -2nd Degree conviction from Campbell County, KY. Christy is presently an inmate at the Western Kentucky Correctional Complex in Eddyville. At the time of the offenses alleged in the indictments, Howell was on probation from Hopkins County, KY Circuit Court for a conviction associated with Possession of Methamphetamine Precursor. Howell is currently a state inmate in the Marshall County Detention Center in Benton.
In a related investigation, Kentucky State Police Detectives charged Sandy J. Turner, 46 of Bardwell for drug offenses in two counties. Turner was named in a two (2) count indictment in McCracken County that was returned on February 9th, 2007. The grand jury returned indictments for one (1) count of Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree and one (1) count of Persistent Felony Offender-2nd Degree. She was also named in a five (5) count indictment in Carlisle County that was returned on February 15, 2007. The grand jury returned indictments for four (4) counts of Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree and one (1) count of Persistent Felony Offender-2nd Degree. Turner is accused of trafficking in a schedule II narcotic on numerous occasions in Bardwell and Paducah, during 2006. She was lodged in the Ballard County Detention Center.
The Marshall County Coroner´s Office, Marshall County Sheriff´s Department, Kentucky Department of Corrections/Division of Probation and Parole, Kentucky Medical Examiner´s Office and Kentucky State Police Drug Enforcement/Special Investigations-West assisted state police with this case. The investigation is continuing by LT. Brent White and Detective Mike Williams.
