Fugitive Arrested in Hopkins County

(SALEM, KY.) On February 7, 2007 at 7:50 PM, Trooper Donald Crawford stopped a vehicle on U.S. 60 at the Livingston\Crittenden County Line. Trooper Crawford suspected the passenger in the vehicle was a fugitive and while attempting to determine whom he was, the man fled on foot. A short foot pursuit ensued and when Trooper Crawford caught the suspect, he resisted arrest. During the altercation, the suspect repeatedly attempted to disarm Trooper Crawford. Trooper Crawford used OC spray along with other techniques to take the suspect, Stanley Wade Hopkins 34 of Fredonia, into custody. Trooper Crawford sustained a broken right ankle in the scuffle and had to taken to Western Baptist Hospital for treatment. Hopkins received multiple injuries but refused medical treatment. Hopkins was charged with Assault 3rd Degree, Possession of Marijuana, Fleeing and Evading 1st (on foot), Resisting Arrest, Disarming a Police Officer (attempted), and Giving Police a False Name. He was also served with 16 warrants from Lyon and Crittenden Counties that stem from a multiple agency pursuit on December 21, 2006. Hopkins was lodged in the McCracken County Detention Center. The investigation is continuing by Kentucky State Police.
