Kentucky State Police Summer Highway Safety Enforcement Campaign
Blue Lights Across the Bluegrass

Date of News Release: 06/29/2007

(Henderson, KY) - July 4th is the second most deadly holiday period of the year after New Year's. Last year 16 people lost their lives in traffic crashes on Kentucky Roads during the July holiday period which ran from 06-30-2006 @ 6:00 p.m. to 07-04-2006 @ 12:00 a.m.

Kentucky State Police will join with local law enforcement and emergency services personnel this year in order to prevent fatalities and injury collisions. While celebrating Independence Day be aware that if "YOU ARE OVER THE LIMIT, YOU ARE UNDER ARREST." This safety campaign is part of the "Blue Lights Across the Bluegrass" Summer Enforcement Program which will focus on impaired drivers, aggressive drivers, speeders, those who fail to wear a seatbelt, and those who fail to buckle up children.

Captain Ricki Allen, Commander of the Kentucky State Police Henderson Post encourages all drivers to exercise caution when operating their vehicles. "We want everyone to remember to buckle up, buckle up their children in an appropriate child restraint, and report impaired and aggressive drivers to a police agency. Please have a safe summer," Allen said.

Charlie McCollom, Henderson County Attorney said, "Those people who choose not to obey the traffic and criminal laws of this commonwealth will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
