Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Arrest in Henderson, KY

(Henderson, KY) - On April 9, 2007, Officer with the Kentucky State Police, Henderson County Sheriff's Office and Drug Enforcement Special Investigation conducted a surveillance operation on Darrel W. Spainhoward of Spottsville, KY.

An image of Darrel Spainhoward, click here to enlargeMr. Spainhoward, operating a 1994 Toyota, his vehicle was observed on KY 351 and Gardenmile Road. Officers followed the vehicle to a location south of Henderson. Officer's attempted to stop the vehicle for Operating with Expired Registration Plates on the vehicle. Spainhoward failed to comply with the direction of a police officer and proceeded north on KY 1299. Spainhoward failed to stop at the intersection of KY 1299 and KY 425, Spainhoward continued eastbound on KY 425 and was observed discarding a white powdery substance from the drivers window with what appeared to be a small plastic baggie corner. Officer's followed the subject when a Sheriff's Deputy attempted to pass the Spainhoward vehicle. Spainhoward swerved across the centerline in an attempt prevent the officer from passing his vehicle. Spainhoward stopped his vehicle 1/10 of a mile west of the intersection of US 41 and KY 425 where officer's were positioned.

Spainhoward was arrested and a search of his vehicle was conducted. Officers located suspected crystal methamphetamine along with a portion of a plastic bag with suspected methamphetamine residue inside the vehicle, rolling papers, a one-hitter box containing suspected marijuana and what appeared to be a cutting agent. Spainhoward was lodged in the Henderson County Detention Center.
