Carter County Incident at I-64

(Ashland, KY) - Kentucky State Police in Ashland are continuing their investigation into an injury collision that occurred on I-64 just below the KY 1 overpass in Grayson, KY. At approximately 1150 hours, Trooper Ed Ginter observed a pickup truck travelling at a high rate of speed on the AA Highway just north of Grayson, KY. Trooper Ginter turned and made an attempt to catch the vehicle and in doing so, observed the pickup truck increase its speed. The pickup truck then turned onto KY 1 southbound and struck a southbound vehicle stopped at a traffic light on KY 1. This vehicle (1998 KIA) was operated by Amanda Prichard, age 18 of Grayson. A sixteen year old juvenile passenger, who was 22 weeks pregnant, was injured in the collision and was later transported to Kings Daughters Medical Center for minor injuries.

After this collision, two occupants exited the pickup truck and fled on foot over the I-64 overpass towards the interstate and into the westbound lanes of travel. One of the subjects was struck by a westbound tractor and trailer operated by Travis Mcattie. The other subject (driver) was taken into custody at the scene. The passenger of the pickup truck was airlifted to Cabell Huntington Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

The investigation revealed the 1992 Chevrolet pickup truck had been reported stolen from Lawrence County, KY on 3-26-07.

*Occupants from pickup truck were:

  • Driver: Lonnie L. Marcum, age 25 of Vanceburg, KY
  • Passenger: Carl Marcum, age 18 of Louisa, KY

An image  of Lonnie Marcum, click here to enlargeI-64 traffic was diverted off the Exit 172 off-ramp then back onto the exit's on-ramp due to both travel lanes under the bridge being closed for a Kentucky State Police accident reconstructionist to process the scene.

The driver of the stolen pickup truck (Lonnie Marcum) was charged with the following offenses:

  1. Speeding
  2. DUI 1st Offense
  3. No seatbelt
  4. Disregarding Traffic Control Device
  5. No insurance
  6. No Registration Plate
  7. Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree (felony)
  8. Failure to signal
  9. Improper Lane Change
  10. Receiving Stolen Property 0/300 (felony)
  11. Reckless Driving
  12. Leaving the scene of an accident
  13. Fleeing and Evading 1st Degree (felony)
  14. Fleeing and Evading 2nd Degree

Suspect lodged in the Carter County Detention Center
