Fatal Crash on US 23 in Lawrence County

(Ashland, KY) - Kentucky State Police in Ashland are continuing their investigation following a fatality collision that occurred on US 23 near the intersection of KY 2565, just South of Louisa Ky. Ronald T. Haney II was travelling southbound on US 23. Ray E. Davis II was travelling northbound on US 23. Ronald T. Haney II lost control of his vehicle and crossed the median into the path of Ray E. Davis II. Ronald T. Haney II vehicle struck Ray E. Davis II in the side of the vehicle travelling slightly under the vehicle. Ronald T. Haney II vehicle then spun back across the median and came to final rest in the southbound lanes of travel. Ray E. Davis II vehicle overturned spilling the entire load of coal across all four lanes of travel.

US 23 was completely shut down for 2 hours in order for Kentucky State Police Accident Reconstructionist to process the scene as well as the State Highway Department to clean the debris from the roadway.

Lawrence County Coroner pronounced Ronald T. Haney II dead at the scene. Ronald T. Haney II passenger was airlifted to ST Mary's Medical Center for multiple injuries. Ray E. Davis II was treated and released at Three River's Hospital in Louisa.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the collision.
