Post 14 Urges Motorists To Use Extra Caution While Travelling
(ASHLAND, KY): Kentucky State Police Post 14 urges motorists to use extra caution while travelling on the major and secondary roadways due to inclement weather conditions. Snow and "black ice" are major causes of vehicle collisions during the winter months and CPT Cross, Post 14 commander, is asking motorist to use extreme caution when travelling in these conditions. CPT Cross urges motorist to allow extra time when travelling during these conditions and to increase vehicle following distance to allow for a safer stop.
When inclement weather occurs, Kentucky State Police Dispatchers are usually flooded with calls for assistance to include traffic accidents. Residents and motorists inquiring about road and travel conditions is strongly urged to call 511 for an updated road condition report in their area. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet sponsors this 511 service.
Kentucky State Police in Ashland wants to remind the citizens in Boyd, Carter, Greenup, and Lawrence Counties to call for assistance if they become stranded due to mechanical failure of their vehicle. Motorists are also urged to carry basic items in their vehicle in the event they are stranded alongside the roadway. These items include, but are not limited to, Cell phone, Battery Booster, Flashlight, Blankets, Road Flares, Basic Tools, Gloves, and jumper cables.
