Fatal Crash on Highway 899 in Knott County

(Hazard, KY) - On 10/19/07 at approximately 7:45 a.m. Kentucky State Police in Hazard received a 911 call of a two-vehicle accident on Highway 899 in the Raven Community of Knott County.

Fire, EMS and State Police arrived at the scene to find that a passenger vehicle and tractor-trailer had collided. Preliminary investigation indicates that the operator of the passenger vehicle, Virgil A. Plymale, age 54 of River, Kentucky, lost control, crossed into the on coming lane and struck the tractor-trailer which was operated by Larry Mosley, age 52 of Hindman, Kentucky. Mr. Plymale was transported to the McDowell A.R.H where he was later pronounced deceased. A passenger in Mr. Plymale's vehicle was also transported to the McDowell A.R.H where he was treated and released. Mr. Mosley was not injured. Seatbelts were in use at the time of the accident. The accident remains under investigation by Tpr. Derek Hall.
