Update Involving Church Burglaries Investigation in Post 13 Area

(Hazard, KY) - On 07/24/07 at approximately 15:17 Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard responds to another church burglary.

The Little Rock Old Regular Baptist Church in the Kona community of Letcher is the latest victim of a burglary. The church was broken into, but nothing was apparently stolen. This is the 4th church burglary in the past week in the Post 13 area. The investigations into the rash of burglaries are continuing. The Kentucky State Police along with the Letcher County Sheriffs Department will be conducting extra patrols in the communities. (Hazard, KY) - Several church burglaries have occurred in the Kentucky State Police Post 13, Hazard area in the past week.

The first church burglarized was the Isom Presbyterian Church located in the Isom community of Letcher County. Electrical items along with cash were taken from the church.

The second was Blair Branch Old Regular Baptist Church also located in the Isom community of Letcher County. A utility building and the church were burglarized and a weed cutter, lawnmower and a vaccum cleaner were stolen.

The third was the Happy Bible Church in the Happy community of Perry County. During the burglary numerous pieces of electronic equipment were stolen from the church. Vandalism was also done at the Happy Bible Church during the burglary.

Several Troopers and Detectives with the Kentucky State Police in Hazard are investigating these cases. Anyone with any information can contact the Kentucky State Police at (606) 435-6069 or 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state).
