Shelby County Man Arrested After Pursuit

(Frankfort, KY) - On Thursday, 9/27/2007 at approximately 1:45 AM, Trooper First Class Hunter Martin attempted to stop a maroon 1998 Toyota Camry for speeding on I-64. The Camry was traveling at 88 mph in a 70-mph zone. When TFC Martin activated his emergency equipment. The driver of the Camry accelerated an attempted to flee TFC Martin.

TFC Martin pursued the Camry into Elizabethtown Post 4's District where Post 4 Troopers assisted. TFC Martin followed the suspect, Justin R. Taggart an observed him jump from the eluding vehicle where a foot pursuit began. During the foot pursuit, TFC Martin deployed his issued taser and stopped the suspect without further incident.

The suspect Justin R. Taggart, W/M, age 27, of Shelbyville, KY was taken into custody and lodged in the Shelby County Jail. The Camry driven by the suspect was stolen from the Louisville area.

The suspect was charged with Speeding; Fleeing or Evading Police 1st; Receiving Stolen Property over $300; Resisting Arrest; Reckless Driving & Operating on a Suspended Operators License. Neither the suspect nor TFC Martin were injured during this incident.
