Three Men Flee from I-75 Traffic Stop One Arrested

(Post 12 Frankfort) On Sunday, April 1, 2007 at 11:55 PM, Tpr. Jeremy Devasher made a traffic stop on I-75 at the 123 mile marker in Scott County. The vehicle was stopped for careless driving. The driver exited the vehicle and a short time later the occupants sped away and the driver fled on foot. The driver was apprehended in a nearby field. The unoccupied vehicle was recovered minutes later on US 460 east of Georgetown.

Ingredients used in Manufacturing Methamphetamine were located inside the vehicle. Anhydrous ammonia tanks, ephedrine, lithium, brake fluid, antifreeze and distilled water. Kentucky State Police used a K-9 and helicopter in the search of the fleeing suspects. Georgetown PD and the Scott County SO assisted Kentucky State Police Post 12 Frankfort.

State police arrested Austin L. Smith of Carryville, TN and lodged him in the Scott County Detention Center. He has been charged with Manufacturing Methamphetamine 1st, Possession Anhydrous Ammonia with Intent to Manufacture Meth 1st, Flee or Evading Police 2nd (On Foot), Failure to Maintain Required Insurance 1ST, Operating on a Suspended or Revoked Operators License, Careless Driving, Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st (Methamphetamine) and Possession of drug Paraphernalia 2nd Offense.

The other two subjects are described as white males, both thin build with dark hair. One of the suspects had tattoos on his right arm. The two men are believed to be from Tennessee. Investigation ongoing, both unknown suspects remain at large.
