West Virginia Woman Abducted, Pike County Man Arrested

(Pike County) - On Thursday, December 14, 2006 at 09:47 am EST, Post 9-Pikeville , received a call for assistance regarding a kidnapping and robbery at the Wal Mart in the South Williamson community of Pike County. It was reported that an unknown male had abducted an adult female and fled in her vehicle.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Jason McClellan and Detective Kevin Newsome responded to the scene at approximately 10:14 am. It was revealed that at approximately 6:30 am an unnamed adult female was in her Ford Focus at the South Williamson Wal Mart parking lot when she was approached by an adult male, later identified as Matthew Casey. After the victim rolled her window down, Casey assaulted her and forced his way into the vehicle. Casey then took the victim to a remote area of Pike County where she was sexually assaulted. The victim was then able to escape with her vehicle.
Information revealed that Casey then obtained another vehicle and fled to West Virginia. All surrounding state, county and local agencies were notified of the suspect information. At approximately 9:53 pm we were notified that the West Virginia State Police and Mingo County Deputies were in pursuit of the suspect heading toward the Kentucky state line on US 119. During the pursuit Casey struck two West Virginia police cruisers. Kentucky State Police Troopers met the pursuit at the Harvey Street Bridge where the vehicle was stopped.
After the arrest it was discovered that Casey had a 5 year old girl in the vehicle with him. Further investigation revealed he had kidnapped and sexually assaulted this child as well. The child is currently in the custody of Kentucky Department of Social Services and has been taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center to be treated for injuries.
Casey was arrested without further incident and lodged in the Pike County Detention Center. He is currently charged with Kidnapping, Sodomy 1st degree Rape 1st degree and Robbery 1st degree.
Kentucky State Police will be working with all jurisdictions involved including the Eastern District of KY US Attorney's Office to determine what if any further charges will be filed.
The incidents remain under investigation by Kentucky State Police Detective Kevin Newsome and West Virginia State Police Detectives.
