Two Men Die in Martin County Shooting

Pikeville, KY-- On Monday, September 18, 2006 at 10:37 pm EST, Post 9-Pikeville, received a call for assistance regarding an alleged shooting on Whickerfield Road in the Inez community of Martin County.

It was reported that William "Billy" Sartan, age 47, allegedly entered a residence on Whickerfield Road and shot Jeffrey L Mattox. He then shot Sue Collins. Sartan left Mattox at the scene but forced Collins to go with him. After walking a short distance Sartan saw Billy Proctor. Sartan then shot Proctor. Sartan fled the scene on foot. Both Mattox and Proctor were pronounced dead at the scene by the Martin County Coroner. Collins was transported to the Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, KY.

William "Billy" Sartan, also known as William Star, age 47, is described as having brown hair, slightly heavy build, 5´10" - 6´0" in height, possibly with facial hair. Use caution if you come in contact with Sartan, he is considered to be armed and dangerous.
