Stand Off with Police Ends With An Arrest of Garrard County Man

Date of News Release: 01/24/2006

(RICHMOND, KY) - On 1/24/2006 at 1630 hours, the Kentucky State Police Post 7 Richmond, attempted to serve felony arrest warrants on David Allen Ward, age 47, of the Buckeye Community in Garrard County.

Mr. Ward apparently barricaded himself in his residence and refused to exit when ordered to do so. Detective Bill Collins, who is the investigating officer and a KSP Hostage Negotiator, was able to make contact with via telephone with Mr. Ward. After two hours of negotiations with Mr. Ward, he surrendered without incident at 1845 hours.

Several uniformed troopers, detectives and the Kentucky State Police Special Response Team were at the scene. At the time of this incident, members of the Buckeye Volunteer Fire Department and the Garrard County Rescue and EMS were on standby in case of injuries to anyone present at the scene. There were no injuries to any Law Enforcement personnel or the suspect.

David Ward is lodged in the Lincoln County Jail and charged with Sodomy 1st and Rape 2nd.
