Fatal Crash on I-65 in Hardin County, KY

(Elizabethtown, KY) - Kentucky State Police Elizabethtown received a complaint of a vehicle northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 65 near the 91 mile marker.

The vehicle, a 1998 Toyota Camry was located by Kentucky State Police but refused to stop. Roger J. Wenzel was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry continued northbound in the southbound lanes at approximately 70 to 75MPH. Mr. Wenzel's vehicle struck Olivia Brittain's 1995 Toyota Camry in the southbound fast lane. During the collision, one of the vehicles became airborne and clipped David G. Almand's 2005 Dodge Ram pick up. Mr. Almand was pulling a travel trailer and sustained moderate damage.

Mr. Almand was not injured. Mr. Roger Wenzel was pronounced dead at the scene. Ms. Olivia Brittain was flown via LifeNet from the scene to University of Louisville Hospital. The extent of Olivia Brittain's injuries are unknown at this time.

An investigation by the Kentucky State Police revealed that Roger Wenzel was listed an endangered missing person by The Louisville Metro Police Department because Mr. Wenzel suffered from Alzheimer's disease.

Investigation is ongoing by the Kentucky State Police.
