Pursuit and Arrest in Hardin County, KY

(Elizabethtown, KY) - On Sunday March 5.2006 Tpr. Scott Rafferty attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on the Western Kentucky Parkway. The vehicle refused to stop and exited the Parkway onto Interstate 65 northbound. The vehicle fled at speeds up to 120 mph. The first two attempts to deploy tire deflation devices were unsuccessful. On the third attempt, officers successfully flattened three of four tires causing the suspect vehicle to come to a controlled stop in the median.

The suspect (Clifton R Whitmer JR) then fled West across Interstate 65 into a wooded area. After a short foot pursuit the suspect was apprehended. The vehicle driven by the suspect, as well as a four wheeler and various tools in the bed, were stolen from Grayson County sometime on the 4th of March. Suspect was treated and released at University of Louisville Hospital for minor injures. The Bullitt County Sheriff's Office, Lebanon Junction Police Department, Hillview Police Department and Shepherdsville Police Department assisted state Police. No officers or motorist were injured during the pursuit. Investigation is continuing by Kentucky State Police.
