Vehicle Fire on I-65 in Warren County, KY

Date of News Release: 07/13/2006

(BOWLING GREEN, Ky.) - Otto Stokes III was northbound on Interstate 65 when the driver had a loss of power and observed smoke coming into the cab. Mr. Stokes attempted to extinguish the engine fire however the fire escalated out of control. A half-mile perimeter was established north and south of the vehicle due to the hazardous materials being transported. State Fire Marshall and Natural Resources determined there was no breach of the hazardous materials container and it is safe to stay at its current location until it can be removed on July 14. The State Highway Department has closed the right shoulder of that area until the container can be removed. Interstate 65 was closed at the 17 mile marker north and southbound for approximately four hours.
